I’m a huge fan of gadgets and always want to have the latest tech – I just can’t help myself! But like many others I’ve proudly been a loyal Apple customer for many years now although my brother has been slowly trying to influence me to try other brands – especially after he purchased a Xiaomi smartphone. At first I dismissed him completely as I hadn’t heard of the brand Xiaomi but when I took a closer look, I was SO impressed! Not only by the quality of the device but also it’s price! It felt like a solid device in my hands in a beautiful and unique bronze colour, the screen was crystal clear, and so the photo quality was impressive. In fact I think the camera was better than mine and that surprised me a little.

I had a quick look at the reviews online and most of the devices made by Xiaomi are rated very highly. Technology is rapidly advancing nowadays and most of the top electronics companies have similar levels of functionality but there can be a huge difference in price. My brother only paid £160 for his Xiaomi smartphone compared to the £1200 I have paid for my Apple device which is just crazy considering they both do a very similar job. All I could think of when I heard this was the other tech I could have purchased with that saving like a new laptop! Sometimes I think we make up opinions about brands before we even try them but if the functionality is there and there is nothing to dislike we really should move away from this mindset of being loyal to brands when similar substitutes are available.

Xiaomi is a massive multinational Chinese company which is fast becoming a very popular, trusted and well known brand after being founded in 2010. They have really made a name for themselves in the electronics market and now even have physical stores around the UK. Not only do they manufacture smartphones but also mobile apps, laptops, home appliances, bags, shoes, consumer electronics, and many other products. They really are a jack of all trades brand!

With my phone contract about to run out and even though I will always be a fan of Apple products I will be trying to keep an open mind when it comes to buying a replacement device. The costs savings between an Apple device and a Xiaomi device are massive! Even if I don’t decide to change my brand of smartphone just yet – I definitely want to check out what else Xiaomi has to offer. Xiaomi also have a number of more affordable mini smart watches with large display screens in a variety of strap colours which I may also be interested in! I was even considering buying one each for the folks so we could all challenge and manage out steps together!
