E.ON Next referral: get a £50 voucher when you switch your home energy

An E.ON Next referral can add a £50 voucher to a household energy switch that already makes sense on price and tariff terms. E.ON Next’s current referral page says that an eligible existing customer and an eligible friend who joins through that customer’s link each get a £50 voucher. It is not an immediate sign-up payment: the referred customer must complete the switch, go live with E.ON Next and make a successful first monthly Direct Debit payment.

That sequencing is important. This guide covers the referral route, supplier and tariff basics, meter readings, first-bill timing and the common ways a reward fails. Use the £50 as a useful one-off extra, not as a substitute for comparing the actual annual cost of the tariff. Energy prices, tariff availability and referral campaigns can change, so check the live quote and official terms immediately before applying.

Current E.ON Next referral offer
What is advertised: a £50 voucher for the eligible new customer and a £50 voucher for the eligible referrer after a successful referral. E.ON Next’s formal terms say it may decide to provide the £50 reward as a voucher code or energy-account credit, and the live offer may change.
Referral code: Ahmed Bhamla
Referral link: Start the E.ON Next referral with Ahmed Bhamla
How to qualify: use the referral link to begin an online E.ON Next energy switch, use the same email address for Mention Me and the E.ON Next account, complete a non-cancelled transfer, and make the first month’s Direct Debit successfully after supply is live.
Timing: E.ON Next says rewards are usually made available within around four weeks from the switch being initiated once the live-supply and first-Direct-Debit conditions are satisfied.
Important: this is for a genuine new E.ON Next energy customer aged 18 or over. It cannot be used with another live E.ON Next offer, cashback or discount.

How to activate the E.ON Next referral and use it correctly

The order below matters. A referral is normally tracked from the route that starts the application, not added after another website, telephone call or comparison journey has already created the switch.

  1. Compare the underlying tariff first. Take your latest bill and note annual gas and electricity consumption, unit rates, standing charges, current tariff name, end date and exit fee. Get an E.ON Next quote through its official tariffs page and, if useful, compare it with an Ofgem-accredited comparison service. The comparison is for your decision; if you select E.ON Next with the referral, do not start the final application through the comparison site.
  2. Begin with the referral link. Open the E.ON Next referral link for Ahmed Bhamla. The referral code is Ahmed Bhamla. E.ON Next’s terms require the link to initiate the switching process; a switch initiated over the phone or through a price-comparison site is not a successful referral.
  3. Select the right tariff, rather than the biggest headline saving. Read the tariff information label and quote before accepting. Check electricity and gas unit rates, standing charges, contract length, Direct Debit assumptions, smart-meter conditions and exit fees. A fixed tariff fixes relevant prices, not the amount of energy you consume or necessarily the monthly Direct Debit amount.
  4. Enter accurate details and arrange the Direct Debit. Complete the address and supply questions honestly, then set up monthly Direct Debit. Use the same valid, current email address for Mention Me and the new E.ON Next account; this match is an express condition in the referral terms. Settle or discuss any issue with the old supplier promptly, because an objection or unresolved account issue can derail the transfer.
  5. Use the cooling-off period deliberately. A new domestic energy contract can be cancelled within 14 days. If you cancel, the referral is not successful. If you continue, E.ON Next says it will contact the existing supplier, give you an estimated start date and confirm completion.
  6. Submit opening meter readings when requested. E.ON Next accepts opening readings up to five days either side of the switch date. Photograph the meter for your records and send gas and electricity readings through the online account. If you have Economy 7 or another multi-rate meter, submit every rate rather than one display only.
  7. Make sure the first Direct Debit can clear. E.ON Next says it usually takes the first payment around 14 days after joining. Keep enough money in the nominated account and do not cancel the mandate. The referral condition is a successful first month’s Direct Debit after live supply, not simply receiving a welcome email or bill.
  8. Monitor both your email and energy account. After the conditions are fulfilled, E.ON Next says the reward is usually available around four weeks from the switch being initiated. Its terms allow delivery as a voucher code or account credit, so check the inbox tied to the account as well as the account balance. Retain confirmation emails and referral screenshots until the reward has arrived.

What E.ON Next provides

E.ON Next is a UK domestic supplier of gas and electricity. The service is the supply contract chosen for your home, supported by an online account and app for bills, payments, readings, usage and tariff management. Its joining guidance says it handles the routine notification to the previous supplier as part of a standard switch. There is no need to arrange a physical interruption of electricity or gas merely because the billing supplier changes.

The more meaningful choice is the particular tariff. E.ON Next currently presents fixed, variable and specialist smart products. A standard variable tariff can change with wholesale-market movements and, where applicable, is constrained by Ofgem’s price cap. A fixed tariff generally holds its unit rates and standing charges for the contracted term, but the bill will still vary with how much energy the household uses. Specialist time-of-use, EV, solar, battery or heat-pump tariffs can have requirements that are valuable to the right household but unsuitable to another.

Tariff approachHow it works in practiceQuestions worth asking
Fixed tariffRelevant unit rates and standing charges are fixed for the term. Consumption, and therefore total cost, remains variable. How long is the term? Is there an exit fee per fuel? Is the annual estimate lower than a variable alternative for your actual kWh use?
Variable tariffRates can move up or down. On a standard variable tariff, the applicable price cap limits prices but does not cap the total bill. What are today’s unit rate and standing charge? How flexible is the deal, and could you tolerate future price changes?
Smart or time-of-use tariffElectricity can be cheaper at specified off-peak times and dearer at others, or be controlled around compatible equipment.Do you have or accept a working smart meter and data collection? Can you shift enough usage to the cheap periods to offset peak rates?

Compare estimated annual cost, not just the headline electricity rate. A low unit rate may be offset by a higher standing charge, a different gas rate or an assumed payment method. Ofgem advises households to choose a tariff based on their circumstances and usage, and notes that leaving a fixed contract early can involve an exit fee. If your current contract is fixed, check the exit charge before beginning a referral switch.

Switching, first bills and meter readings

The administrative switch is normally fast. E.ON Next and Ofgem say it can take up to five working days, while the domestic cooling-off period is 14 days. Your former supplier later sends the final bill; E.ON Next says this can take up to six weeks to settle. The former supplier remains responsible for refunding any credit after the final account calculation, so do not expect that credit to transfer automatically to the new account.

Opening readings are a simple protection against the wrong supplier charging the wrong usage. E.ON Next says it will ask for them and can estimate if it does not receive them in time. Record a time-stamped photograph on the changeover date and submit readings promptly. On digital meters ignore the digits after a decimal point; on dual-rate meters make a note of both registers. Its meter-reading guidance shows how to read dial, digital, mechanical and smart meters.

A smart meter usually makes billing easier, but check it rather than assuming it has connected. E.ON Next says a smart meter can temporarily lose communications when a supply moves across, and connection can take up to two weeks. Older equipment may need a manual reading during that time. If the online account shows an estimate, send an actual reading to prevent it becoming the basis for the next statement.

Do not conflate the supply start date, first bill and first payment. E.ON Next says the first bill may cover a slightly longer period than a normal month, and it usually takes the first Direct Debit about 14 days after joining. The reward depends on the successful first monthly Direct Debit after the supply is live. A first statement does not, by itself, prove that the referral has qualified.

Eligibility and referral failure points

The £50 is supported by the current official referral page and terms, but it is conditional. Check each point below before counting it as part of the saving.

  • Existing E.ON Next customer: the referred friend must not already be supplied by E.ON Next for energy. Self-referral, including using a link to switch your own properties, is expressly excluded.
  • Referral started too late: the referral link must be used to initiate the switch. Attempting to add Ahmed Bhamla after a different route has begun the application is not a stated substitute; start with the supplied referral link.
  • Email mismatch: Mention Me registration and the switched E.ON Next account must use the same valid, up-to-date email address. Check spelling and avoid swapping between personal and household inboxes.
  • Cancelled, blocked or failed transfer: a successful referral must survive the cooling-off period and complete. If the old supplier objects, E.ON Next says you need to contact that supplier promptly; unresolved debt or account issues may delay or prevent a switch.
  • First Direct Debit failure: the first payment is an actual eligibility condition. Incorrect bank details, insufficient funds or cancelling the mandate can prevent the reward even if supply has started.
  • Using another incentive: the terms prohibit combining this referral with another live E.ON Next offer, cashback or discount. A comparison-site or cashback transaction may therefore cost the referral.
  • Breaking scheme rules: referral terms restrict commercial promotion, paid advertising and some public sharing by referrers. Mention Me and the reward-partner terms also apply, and E.ON Next can amend or withdraw the programme.
  • Leaving a voucher unused: a voucher code is not cash. Under the terms, it has 12 months to be exchanged at an available retailer; once exchanged, the retailer’s own expiry and use rules control.

Practical value assessment

For someone who has already selected an eligible E.ON Next tariff, £50 is a worthwhile fixed-value extra and the online process is relatively simple. The main trade-off is timing: it arrives only after the completed transfer and successful Direct Debit. The formal terms also mean that you should allow for account credit rather than presuming a particular retailer voucher is guaranteed.

It is not rational to pay a large exit fee or accept a materially higher annual bill solely to obtain £50. A fixed deal’s early-leaving charge, a higher standing charge, or an unsuitable time-of-use profile can absorb the entire benefit. Calculate the quote using your own annual consumption, compare like-for-like payment methods, then treat the referral as a bonus on a tariff that remains competitive without it.

The offer best suits a new E.ON Next customer who can pay by monthly Direct Debit, use the referral link before applying and manage readings or smart-meter connectivity. It is a poor fit for someone who must use another cashback route, expects to cancel in the cooling-off period, cannot reliably fund the first Direct Debit, or is tied into a current tariff with a costly exit fee.

Referral FAQs

Is the E.ON Next reward definitely a £50 voucher?

The current official referral page advertises a £50 voucher for each eligible party. The formal terms say E.ON Next may instead provide the £50 reward as energy-account credit and may change or withdraw the live offer, so check the terms during the application.

How long does an E.ON Next switch take?

E.ON Next and Ofgem say a household energy switch can take up to five working days. You also have a 14-day cooling-off period on a new domestic contract, and the old supplier’s final bill can take longer.

When will I receive the £50 referral reward?

The referred supply must be live and the first month’s Direct Debit must succeed. E.ON Next says rewards are usually available around four weeks after the switch is initiated once those conditions are met.

Do I need a smart meter to switch to E.ON Next?

Not for every tariff or for the general referral switch. Some specialist smart, EV or time-of-use tariffs can require a working smart meter and other conditions, so read the individual tariff information before choosing it.

Can I use the referral with cashback or a comparison-site switch?

No. The referral terms exclude other live E.ON Next offers, cashback and discounts, and say switches started through a comparison site or by phone are not successful referrals. Compare first if you wish, then use the referral link for the final application if you choose E.ON Next.

What meter readings should I give after switching?

Send opening electricity and gas readings when asked, within the accepted five-day window around the switch date. Submit every register on a multi-rate meter. A smart meter can temporarily stop communicating after the switch, so check for estimates.

Can I refer myself or another property that I own?

No. E.ON Next’s terms exclude a referrer and referee who are the same person using a referral link to switch their own properties.

How long do I have to use an E.ON Next referral voucher?

If a voucher code is issued, E.ON Next’s terms say it is valid for 12 months to exchange at an available retailer. After exchange, the chosen retailer’s own terms and expiry date apply.

The current E.ON Next referral page advertises a £50 voucher for each eligible party, but the scheme terms allow E.ON Next to provide a £50 voucher code or energy-account credit and to change or withdraw the live offer. Eligibility requires a new E.ON Next energy customer aged 18+, an online switch initiated through the referral link, a completed non-cancelled transfer, matching registered email details and a successful first month’s Direct Debit. The offer cannot be combined with other live E.ON Next offers, cashback or discounts. Check the official referral terms and the live referral journey before applying.
