With the lockdown restrictions lifting, I’m ready to get back to the new normal. This means going out and about again, seeing friends and family. I don’t have a car at the moment and to tell you the truth I don’t like driving in central London even when I do have a car, the congestion and the charges are an absolute killer! So most of the time if I’m out late or visiting friends who don’t live close to a tube station I use a taxi app to call a taxi. I’ve become quite used to it and rely on taxi’s a lot these days. You will see from my blog that I use all the main ride sharing apps FREENOW and Uber but sometimes I end up having to pay much more than expected as they are surge charging and the taxi is miles away.

I began to see lot so of other services advertised so I thought I would try Gett. I was attending a friend’s wedding which was going to finish late so I booked a taxi home with Gett. The distance was quite far from home so I was a little nervous about how much it would cost me, but I was pleasantly surprised! As it was my first ride, I used the GETT coupon: GTOMWRE to get £15 off which made it even more affordable. I was able to enjoy the wedding and not worry about the expense of getting home.

Gett is a very similar service to Uber, you can choose the type of taxi you want, and you can opt for XL which is a black cabs at a discounted price and it can seat up to six people and always makes me feel like a real Londoner! If I have family from abroad visiting I’ll most definitely use this option so they can enjoy the ride. You download the app and add your credit card detail. Once you have taken your ride you can add a % tip but you don’t have to.

The interface is really easy to use and it picks up your location automatically but you do have the option to enter it manually if needed. The difference with Gett is that I can choose to pay a fixed rate or chose to pay a meter fare, whereas Uber will only give you an estimated range of fare and so you don’t know how much to expect. Locations are a bit more limited compared to Uber, but I use it mainly in London so it’s great for me. I can even book a taxi in advance for later. I also find that Gett is a lot faster than Uber, the wait time is between 2-3 minutes as a taxi is usually in a rank nearby. I hate waiting for a taxi at the end of the night, when I want to leave, I want to leave! Most importantly all off the taxi drivers are licensed and I know I can trust them which is always a worry with the news you hear about other ride sharing apps. Don’t forget you can use the GETT coupon: GTOMWRE to get £15 off your first ride too!
