Biography
Haley Cross started ReferAndSave from her kitchen table in Bristol in 2019, after spending a weekend digging through forum threads to find a working bank switching code for her sister. What she found was a mess: dead codes, screenshot-only listings and blogs that had not been updated in three years. She decided the UK needed a referral directory where every single listing was opened, tested and dated.
Today she leads a team of writers and verifiers, sets the editorial policy this site runs on, and reviews any listing involving regulated financial products. She has final say on which offers become Editor's Picks and, more importantly, which offers get removed.
Credentials
- 12 years in consumer publishing, previously deputy editor at a UK money comparison title
- Member of the team that wrote our editorial policy, corrections policy and sourcing methodology
Personal experience
What Haley has actually done with these offers — not just written about.
- Opened and closed more than 200 UK accounts personally to test referral flows end to end, from challenger banks to EV charging apps.
- Was paid £0 by three separate 'guaranteed' referral schemes in 2020 — the experience that led to our rule that a reward must be evidenced before we publish it.
- Runs the quarterly sweep that retires offers whose programmes have quietly closed; 22 platforms were removed in the most recent pass.
